WELCOME
Fiestas Patrias commemorates the independence of Latin American countries, many of which celebrate their national independence day in the month of September. This festival is a celebration of Latinos: our culture, our music, our food, our dances and many other traditions that have accumulated over the centuries.

The 2022 “Emerging Stronger Together” theme symbolizes the first time we are coming together for these celebrations since the COVID-19 pandemic affected our lives in 2020 and a celebration of life. It also highlights Sea Mar’s ongoing efforts throughout the pandemic period connecting the Latino community and all underserved communities to COVID information, testing and vaccines, as well as much-needed resources to improve their health. Sea Mar also aims to connect with organizations, groups and individuals to learn and share more about Latino culture. We are all part of one global village, one body, and one country with plenty of colorful, diverse cultures and different perspectives.

Fiestas Patrias is hosted by Sea Mar Community Health Centers in partnership with Seattle Center Festál and takes place on Saturday, September 17 and Sunday, September 18. Throughout the two-day event at Seattle Center, attendees can enjoy delicious traditional Latin American food, live music, traditional folk dance performances, health fair offering health information, free health screenings and COVID vaccines, Zumba, children’s activities and more. This event is free and open to the public.

We invite you to emerge with us and enjoy the fiesta.

    Mexico

Learn how to make mole! A traditional Mexican sauce enjoyed throughout the nation. Although many regions may have their own recipe and style, this video shows the roots of its creation and the uses as a great meal.

    Honduras

Make your own baleadas at home! This is a traditional Honduran dish composed of a flour tortilla, filled with mashed fried red beans and thick cream. It originates from the north coast of the country and many other people add sausage, plantain, hot sauce, avocado, chicken, pork or chismol which is diced tomato, onion and bell pepper.

    Guatemala

Chiles rellenos are stuffed peppers filled with ground meat and other ingredients. This very traditional Guatemalan dish is very popular among the locals and has styled to their national spices and flavor profiles.

Chile

Sopaipilla is a fried pastry and a type of quick bread served in several regions with Spanish heritage in the Americas. In Chile, sopaipillas are traditionally homemade and eaten during days of heavy rain. They are also enjoyed as a popular street food.

Peru

Lomo saltado is a popular, traditional Peruvian dish, a stir fry that typically combines marinated strips of sirloin (or other beef steak) with onions, tomatoes, french fries, and other ingredients; and is typically served with rice. The dish originated as part of the chifa tradition, the Chinese cuisine of Peru, though its popularity has made it part of the mainstream culture.

El Salvador

A perfect drink for warm weather and a dessert afterwards! El Salvador's fresco de ensalada is the type of recipe where you can add your favorite fruits so feel free to have fun with the flavours! You can add herbs like mint or other fruits like cucumbers.
